BREMER, BARTER LEAD GETTYSBURG TO 10-7 WIN OVER NO. 6 WASHINGTON

CHESTERTOWN, Md. --- Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) tied a career-high with six points and Andrew Barter (N. Brookfield, MA/Tabor Acad.) flashed the form that made him 1999's Division III Goalie of the Year as second-ranked Gettysburg downed No. 6 Washington 10-7 in a key Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse game on Saturday.

Bremer assisted on the first two goals of the game, then scored his team's final three, finishing with three goals and three assists to help Gettysburg (9-1, 3-0 CC) earn its 19th straight conference win and gain the inside track on the CC's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.  Gettysburg and Washington have combined to win all six previous conference championships.

Barter made a season-high 18 saves in the win, including nine stops in the fourth period to halt the Shoremen's comeback bid.  Washington (7-3, 3-1 CC) rallied from a 7-2 halftime deficit to pull within 9-7 with 4:22 left.  J.D. Radebaugh led the Shoremen with a goal and two assists while Chris Johnson added a pair of goals in the loss.

Ross Garretson (New Hope, PA/Germantown Academy) chipped in with a goal and three assists for the Bullets while Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Canterbury [CT]) and Charlie Hanchett (Annapolis, MD/Stony Brook School [NY]) each scored a pair of goals.

Gettysburg came out flying in the first period, scoring twice before the game was three minutes old.  Bremer fed Milliman to open the scoring at the 12:45 mark, then set up Garretson 13 seconds later to make it 2-0 Gettysburg.  The Shoremen halted the Bullets' momentum with a goal from Jon Fellows at 8:30 to close out the first period down 2-1.

In the second period, Gettysburg went on a 5-1 run to take a 7-2 lead into the half.  Christian Cronin (Olney, MD/Georgetown Prep) and Chestertown native Tommy Pearce (Chestertown, MD/Woodberry Forest [VA]) sandwiched goals around a goal from Washington's Nick Nylund to make it 4-2.  Hanchett scored back-to-back goals over a 3:09 span to push the Bullet lead to 6-2 with 3:40 remaining before Milliman closed out the half with an extra-man goal at 2:45.

To their credit, the Shoremen refused to go away, scoring five of the game's next seven goals to pull within 9-7 with 4:22 remaining in the game.

Washington had a big chance to pull within one when Gettysburg's Jason Carlstrom (Far Hills, NJ/West Morris Mendham) took a tripping penalty with 3:06 left, but the Bullets killed off the extra-man opportunity and Bremer sealed the win with his third goal of the game with 56 seconds remaining.

Barter made nine often-spectacular saves in the final 15 minutes to keep the Gettysburg lead intact.  Washington outshot Gettysburg 36-27 for the game, including a 23-10 disparity in the second half.

The Bullets, currently ranked second in Division III, return to action on Tuesday, April 18 at Dickinson College.  Game time is 4 p.m.
