GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Canterbury [CT]) scored six goals and two assists as third-ranked Gettysburg wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 16-5 win over Messiah on Wednesday.
Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) collected four goals and one assist while senior attackman Ross Garretson (New Hope, PA/Germantown Academy) added two goals and two assists en route to the Bullets' record-tying 13th win this season. Gettysburg (13-1) also won 13 games in 1995 and 1999.
Andrew Garver scored a pair of goals for Messiah (6-8) while Jason Weisenborn added two goals and an assist. In the net, Justin Moe tallied 29 saves for the Falcons to break the Messiah record for saves in a season. He has compiled 258 saves through 14 games.
The Bullets opened up the scoring when Garretson found the net off a pass from Mark Pollak (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) at 13:04, but Weisenborn retaliated for the Falcons at 9:06 to tie the score at 1-1. Milliman regained the lead for the home team at 8:03 off an assist from Tommy Pearce (Chestertown, MD/Woodberry Forest School [VA]), then pushed the score to 3-1 when he teamed up with Garretson at 6:45. Garretson notched his second goal of the contest at the 2:57 mark to end the first period scoring with Gettysburg leading 4-1.
The Falcons opened the second quarter scoring when Garver beat Gettysburg senior goalkeeper Andrew Barter (North Brookfield, MA/Tabor Acdmy.) to the net at 11:20. Barter, however, would regain the three-goal lead for the Bullets all by himself, going coast-to-coast at 9:58 and burying his first collegiate goal to push the score to 5-2.
Messiah returned the favor when Dann Gahres buried an unassisted goal at 4:43, but the visitors would pull no closer as the Bullets took control of the game.
Gettysburg sank its sixth score of the contest to finish out the first half, and returned to outscore 10-2 in the second half of play. The Bullets outshot the Falcons 55-14 on the afternoon and held a 49-28 advantage in ground balls.
Gettysburg returns to action at the 2000 NCAA tournament, the programs 10th straight berth in the NCAA postseason. Site, date and opponent will be determined and announced on Sunday, May 7.
