ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Muhlenberg College downed Gettysburg College 2-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday, handing the Bullets their first CC loss in 12 conference games.
After almost a half of scoreless soccer, Muhlenberg's Kevin Welding came off the Mules' bench and capitalized off a pass from Ben Long to give the Mules the 1-0 lead going into the halftime.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, Muhlenberg would see its lead pushed to 2-0, this time after Gettysburg succumbed to an own goal at the 58-minute mark.
Gettysburg finally found the Mule net in the 88th minute, when Michael McLaughlin (Swampscott, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) netted a pass from Jeremy Shapiro (Leonia, NJ/Fieldston School). The two-goal deficit would prove too much in the end as Gettysburg fell to a conference opponent for the first time in the last 12 conference matches.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, September 27 at home against Western Maryland College. Game time is 4 p.m.
