Late goal pushes Gettysburg past Washington, 2-1

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Lisa Schechet (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) tallied her second collegiate goal late in the second half to push Gettysburg to a 2-1 victory over Washington College in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action of Saturday.

     The win extends Gettysburg's (6-2, 3-0 CC) conference winning streak to 22 games.

     The Bullets struck first and fast, taking the 1-0 lead 3:44 into the game off the foot of Emily McAuliffe (Lowville, NY/Lowville Academy).  The goal, McAuliffe's fourth on the season, ties her personal best for goals in a season, set in 1999.

     The Shorewomen returned the favor eight minutes later, locking the score at 1-1 when Courtney Riso netted her ninth goal of the season at the 11:44 mark.  Sarah Polhamus was credited with the assist.

    Despite a deluge of Bullet shots on goal, the game remained tied through halftime and 30 minutes of the second half.  At 74:28, Schechet powered the winning goal past the Washington's Quin Bowman to earn the Bullets the win.

    Bowman tallied 27 saves between the pipes for the Shorewomen, while Gettysburg goalie Carine Doyle (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) notched four for the Bullets.

    Gettysburg outshot Washington 28-6 and held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

    The Bullets return to action on Thursday, September 28 at home against Muhlenberg College.  Game time is 4 p.m.
