FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Gettysburg used three second-half goals to pull away from Mary Washington 5-1 in men's soccer action on Saturday the first day of the Mary Washington Classic. Five different Bullets scored in the four-goal victory.
The Bullets scored twice in the first 10 minutes, first on a tally by Michael McLaughlin (Swampscott, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) at the 6:00 minute mark, and then by Clayton Krum (Hellertown, PA/Moravian Academy) in the eighth minute. Mary Washington's Marc Salotti cut the lead to one with 6:00 minutes remaining until halftime on an assist by Roberto Morales.
Gettysburg's Joe Rice (Wyomissing Hills, PA/Wyomissing), Jeremy Shapiro (Leonia, NJ/Fieldston School [NY]), and Mike Bevilacqua (Marshfield, MA/Thayer Acad.) tallied second half goals.
Mary Washington's Liam Garland made three saves in 71 minutes and Brian Hall had one save in 19 minutes. Gettysburg's Nick LaPorta (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) made two saves for the Bullets.
Gettysburg will take on Shenandoah University on Sunday at 1 p.m. MWC will take on Washington College at 3 p.m.
