Gettysburg defeats Muhlenberg 73-57 in Centennial Conference action

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) posted her fourth straight double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to help lift Gettysburg past Muhlenberg 73-57 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday.

Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) led all scorers with 21 points while Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) collected 12 points and dished out five assists.  Katie Hewes (West Chester, PA/Villa Maria Academy) also scored five points while adding 10 rebounds and gathering a career-high five assists.

Muhlenberg (4-6, 1-2 CC) took an early 3-0 lead 30 seconds into the game on a 3-pointer by Erin DeVaney, but Gettysburg responded with a jumper by Hodge at 18:56 making it 3-2.

The Mules maintained an 11-9 lead at the 11:21 mark in the first half before Hewes knotted the game at 11-11 on a layup with 11:21 remaining in the half.

Hodge gave Gettysburg (11-2, 4-1 CC) the lead for good with two free throws at the 8:50 mark to make it 16-15.  DeVaney drained a three to pull within one at 19-18 with 6:59 remaining in the first half.

Drevna knocked down a 3-pointer to extend the Bullets' lead to 23-19 with 5:38 remaining in the half.  The junior then added her second three of the game to make it 26-21 and Bear followed with her first 3-pointer at 3:59 to make it 29-21.  Bear scored on a layup and free throw to help the Bullets take a 40-26 lead into halftime.

Muhlenberg scored the first two points of the second half, but it was all Gettysburg as they pulled away on two free throws by Bear at the 17:50 mark to make it 45-30.  Keriann Van Nostrand (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan Reg.) added two of her 14 points at 15:31 followed by a jumper by Drevna to make it 49-36 with 13:59 remaining.

Bear collected her second 3-pointer of the game to give the Bullets a 56-36 lead at 12:37 in the second half and the Mules could get no closer than the final margin of 16 points the rest of the way.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, January 13 at Centennial Conference foe Franklin & Marshall.  Game time is 6 p.m.
