LANCASTER, Pa. - Alex Kraft led three players in double figures with a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Franklin & Marshall past Gettysburg 66-53 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.
Kraft scored 12 of his 16 points on free throws for the Diplomats (11-2, 4-0 CC), who used a 30-19 first half to subdue the Battlefield squad.
Greg Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) led Gettysburg (6-7, 3-1 CC) with 14 points on 6-10 shooting and added a team-high nine rebounds. Jim Natale (Washington Crossing, PA/Council Rock) was the only other Bullet to reach double figures, going six for eight from the free throw line for 12 points. Curtis McNeil (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) added a team-high four assists and a game-high four blocks.
Gettysburg saw its only lead of the game when John Schnebly (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) opened the night's scoring off a short turn-around from the right side of the paint at 19:02.
Franklin & Marshall forward Casimer Thomas sank the equalizer at 18:45 to spark a 10-0 Diplomat run, and give the home squad the lead for good.
Schreiber broke the Bullet scoring drought at 13:39 with a reverse lay-up, and then took a feed from McNeil at 12:37 to pull Gettysburg within 6-10.
Following five minutes of back and forth play, F&M took its second big run of the half, scoring nine unanswered points before Schnebly notched a pair from the charity stripe to make it 17-30 for the Diplomats with 1:14 left before the break.
When play resumed Gettyburg cut the lead down to single digits on three different occasions, and got as close as seven with 2:15 left to play, but the F&M lead proved too much in the end as the Bullets picked up their first CC loss of the year.
Gettysburg returns to action on Monday, January 15 at Alvernia College. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
