GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Molly Malloy recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Johns Hopkins past Gettysburg 70-63 to take control of the West Division in the Centennial Conference (CC) on Wednesday.
Junior guard Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) led three Gettysburg players in double figures with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Sophomore forward Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) and freshman guard Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) also scored in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
The Blue Jays (13-6, 8-1 CC) were in control throughout the first half, leading by as much as 11 points before taking a 26-18 advantage into halftime.
The Bullets (15-4, 8-3 CC) went on an 11-3 run to pull within four points at 39-35 with 13:17 remaining in the game, but Hopkins was able to hold the lead with a 7-of-8 performance from the free-throw line in the last 1:17 of the contest.
Jennifer Dearborn also reached double figures with 12 points while Ashley Shepler and Lauren Martin each chipped in with nine points for the Blue Jays.
Cory Dallas (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Hodge each grabbed seven boards to led the Bullets.
Hopkins held a slim 47-44 advantage on rebounds and forced 21 Gettysburg turnovers, including 13 in the first half. The Bullets shot only 52 percent (12-of-23) from the foul line, while the Blue Jays managed to shoot 71 percent (20-of-28) from the line, including 83 percent (15-of-18) in the second half.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, February 2 when the Bullets face Eastern College in the first round of the Gettysburg Invitational. Game time is 8 p.m.
