GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Clayton Krum (Hellertown,
PA/Moravian Academy) scored the game-winning goal to lift
Gettysburg over Ursinus 4-0 in Centennial Conference (CC)
action on Saturday.
Krum scored the first goal of the match, and his third goal
of the season, into the left netting off a pass from Michael
Sarbaugh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) from the right
side in the 35th minute.
After the Bullets went into halftime with a 1-0 lead, Chris
Borcik (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) increased Gettysburg's
lead to 2-0 when he fired a line-drive shot that clipped off
the finger tips of Bears' goalkeeper B.J. Callaghan
and into the netting in the 55th minute from a Michael
Bruno (Harrisburg, PASusquehanna Township) assist.
Malcolm Thomas (Conway, NH/North Yamouth Academy) netted
his first goal of the season off a serve from David Pone
(Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) on a corner kick in the 80th
minute.
The Bullets sealed the victory when Brett Kelly (Titusville,
NJ/Hopewell Valley) headed a goal from Andrew Maynard
(Reading, PA/Exeter Township) on a free kick in the 89th
minute.
Gettysburg outshot Ursinus 26-2 in the game. The Bears did
not have any shots on goal, but Mark Drinker had a
shot that went wide in the fifth minute, and an Andrew
Smith shot in the 56th minute that also went wide of the
goal.
Callaghan had a game-high 11 saves for Ursinus, while Steve
Kopp (Upper Monclair, NJ/Monclair) and David Love (Highland
Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill) combined to earn the shutout
for Gettysburg. It was the Bullets' fourth-straight shutout,
which is one off the program record that also was accomplished
in 1991 and 1996.
Gettysburg is on a five-game winning streak and improves to
11-3 on the season and 4-2 in the CC, while Ursinus falls
to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday when they host Mary
Washington. Start time is 4 p.m.
