GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Matthew Doran
scored a pair of goals to lead 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins past
Gettysburg 2-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday.
Doran scored the game-winning goal off a corner-kick serve
from Aerik Williams in the 11th minute.
Doran secured the Blue Jay victory with his conference-leading
17th goal of the season off a cross from the left side into
the right netting in the 86th minute. Chad Tarabolous
and Williams picked up assists on the goal.
The Bullets had several opportunities to get on the board
in the game. Michael Sarbaugh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown)
had an apparent game-tying goal taken away on a disputed offsides
call in the 64th minute. Sarbaugh then fired a shot just wide
in the 84th minute.
Johns Hopkins' goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. made
a diving save off the foot of Will Hohman (Landenberg,
PA/St. Marks [DE]) in the 22nd minute.
The teams went into halftime with eight shots apiece, but
the Blue Jays outshot the Bullets 12-2 in the second half
for a 20-10 advantage in the game. Steve Kopp (Upper
Montclair, NJ/Montclair) had a career-high 11 saves
for Gettysburg, while Kane had four saves for Johns Hopkins.
The Blue Jays, who end a five-game winless streak at Gettysburg,
improved to 14-2 on the season and 8-0 in CC play, while the
Bullets fell to 13-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
Gettysburg, which remains in the hunt for a CC playoff berth,
finishes the regular season at conference foe Dickinson on
Saturday. Game time is 11 a.m.
