Bruno lifts Gettysburg past Dickinson 3-1 in CC action

CARLISLE, Pa. – Junior Michael Bruno (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) scored the eventual game-winning goal as Gettysburg defeated Dickinson 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s soccer action on Saturday.

 The Bullets will need a loss by Franklin & Marshall to Johns Hopkins in order to qualify for the CC championships.

 In other key match-ups, Western Maryland defeated Washington 2-1 on Saturday while Muhlenberg downed Ursinus 3-2 on Friday, Oct. 26. With the wins, the Green Terror and the Mules should advance to the playoffs.

Bruno gave the Bullets a 2-0 lead on a pass from freshman Chris Borcik (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) in the 17th minute of the first half.

 Daniel Warshaw tallied the Red Devils’ (5-13-1, 2-7 CC) lone goal of the game on a pass from Mike Morrow to cut Gettysburg’s lead to 2-1 in the 72nd minute.

 The Bullets (14-4, 6-3 CC) made it 3-1 when Mike Bevilacqua (Marshfield, MA/Thayer Academy) scored on a pass from Michael Sarbaugh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) in the 82nd minute.

 Gettysburg took an early 1-0 lead when David Pone (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) assisted Michael McLaughlin (Swamscott, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) less than two minutes into the game.

Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) collected five saves for the Bullets while Michael Murphy tallied 10 saves on the day for Dickinson.

 Gettysburg outshot the Red Devils 19-16 and held a 2-1 advantage in penalty kicks.

 The Bullets postseason will depend on the results of the Franklin & Marshall and Johns Hopkins game on Saturday.
