Nocar, Turnovers Carry Bullets to 16-7 Win at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Nick Nocar (Baltimore, MD/Gilman) carried 18 times for a career-high 141 yards and one touchdown, and Gettysburg took advantage of six St. Lawrence turnovers to down the Saints 16-7 in non-conference football action on Saturday.

Nocar, making his first start at halfback in place of injured Bullet rushing leader Mike Lublanecki, scored his first career rushing touchdown to give Gettysburg a 13-0 first-quarter lead, then ripped off a momentum-shifting 49-yard run on the first play after St. Lawrence pulled within 13-7 early in the fourth.

Freshman fullback Mike Schwalb (Bernardsville, NJ/Pingry School) also posted career highs with 19 carries for 88 yards to help Gettysburg (3-5) roll up 311 rushing yards on the afternoon and put an end to its three-game losing streak.

St. Lawrence freshman quarterback Bret Conrad completed 26 of 48 passes for 299 yards and one touchdown, but the Saints (0-8) were victimized by four interceptions and a pair of fumbles on the way to their 10th consecutive loss.

Senior Keith Adams (Hanover, PA/New Oxford) recorded a pair of interceptions for Gettysburg and tipped a third Conrad pass that Pat Hagner (Owings, MD/Northern) intercepted and returned 43 yards with St. Lawrence at the Bullet 15 and five minutes remaining.

Fellow senior Ryan Moore (Glenolden, PA/Interboro) added eight tackles (7 solo) on the afternoon to become the first player in Centennial Conference history to record 400 career tackles.  Heading into the season's final two games, Moore has 403 career tackles.

Pete Vincelli (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) carried 12 times for 44 yards and scored his first touchdown in four games for Gettysburg.

After their lead was cut to 13-7 on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Conrad to Eric Zehrran, the Bullets responded on their next drive thanks to Nocar.

Starting at its own 35 with 14:13 remaining, Nocar broke free around the right end and galloped to the Saint 16.  The St. Lawrence defense help Gettysburg to five yards on the next three plays, but Sam Shipley (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) converted a 28-yard field goal for a 16-7 lead with 11:50 left.

After the two team's exchanged punts, St. Lawrence march 10 plays to the Bullet 15 before Adams tipped a Conrad pass and Hagner gathered in his first career pick and carried to the Saint 42 with 4:36 to play.

Adams' second interception of the game ended St. Lawrence's next drive and sealed the Bullet victory.

Relying exclusively on the ground game, the Bullets built a 13-0 lead in the first quarter.

Gettysburg opened its first possession at its own 47 following a St. Lawrence fumble and cashed in the mistake by marching 53 yards on nine plays for a 7-0 lead.

Schwalb ripped off runs of 11 and 12 on the drive, which was capped by Vincelli's touchdown run on third-and-goal from the Saint 1 only 5:04 into the game.

Keith Adams halted St. Lawrence's next foray into Bullet territory with his first interception of the game, setting up Gettysburg's second scoring drive.

Schwalb carried five times for 36 yards, including a 22-yard romp to the St. Lawrence 47.

On their last drive of the first half, the Saints marched 72 yards to the Bullet 6, but Matt Zangrilli (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) intercepted Conrad on a fade route in the end zone to preserve Gettysburg's 13-0 lead heading into the locker room.
