PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
Laura Franek scored a goal
and added an assist to lead Carnegie Mellon past Gettysburg
2-0 in the first round of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region women’s
soccer tournament on Wednesday.
With the loss, the Bullets wrapped up their
2001 season with a 12-7 record.
Franek assisted Peggy Kremen’s
eventual game-winner in the 39th minute to open the scoring,
then lofted a shot into the left netting with five seconds
remaining in the first half to set the final margin.
Tartan goalie Maya Nigrosh
made saves on Christina DiTucci (E. Rochester, NY/Our
Lady of Mercy) and Kay McLaughlin (Floral Park,
NY/St. Mary’s) in the second half to preserve the
shutout.
Goalie Carine Doyle (Exton, PA/Bishop
Shanahan) finished with six saves for Gettysburg.
Carnegie Mellon outshot the Bullets
14-10 on the day while Gettysburg held a 6-1 advantage in
corner kicks.
