Sarbaugh's hat trick leads Gettysburg to 9-0 win over Lycoming

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Michael Sarbaugh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) scored three goals to lead Gettysburg over Lycoming 9-0 in non-conference action on Thursday. It was the most goals the Bullets scored in a game since 1999 when they defeated Swarthmore 9-0.

Sarbaugh scored the third goal of the game from a Clayton Krum (Hellerstown, PA/Moravian Academy) on a two-on-one break in the 42nd minute of the game.

With the Bullets in control of the game, Sarbaugh netted in his own rebound off the post in the 74th minute, and then scored in the left netting from a Frank Ianni (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) two minutes later. It was the junior's first collegiate hat trick.

Michael Bruno (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp) scored Gettysburg's first goal of the game off a Michael McLaughlin (Swampscott, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) assist in the first minute of the game.

Bruno then connected with J.W. Havens (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill), and Havens popped it over Warrior goalkeeper Jason Fesler in the 20th minute for the 2-0 lead. The goal was the senior's first collegiate goal.

Will Hohman (Landenberg, PA/St. Marks [DE]) scored from a Sarbaugh assist in the 72nd minute to give the Bullets a 4-0 lead.

Bruno scored his second goal of the game, and ties him for the team lead (Hohman) with five goals on the season, from Krum's second assist on the day in the 76th minute.

James Bealer (Darien, CT/Darien) netted his first goal of the year when his shot from midfield went over the goalkeeper's head in the 88th minute of the game.

With time running out in the second half, Brett Kelly (Titusville, NH/Hopewell Valley) scored from a Matt Burns (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) assist. It was the senior's first collegiate goal.

Gettysburg outshot Lycoming 30-3. The Warriors only scoring opportunity in the game came when Ian Kauffman's shot hit the bar in the 87th minute of the game.

Bullets goalkeeper's Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) and David Love (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill) combined for the shutout, with Kopp recording one save. For the Warriors, Fessler had six saves and Will Anthony added three stops.

Gettysburg improves to 8-3 on the year, while Lycoming falls to 3-6-1 on the year. The Bullets return to action on Saturday when thy face Swarthmore in a Centennial Conference match-up. Start time is 12 p.m.
