Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) recorded her third double-double in as many games with 14 points and 14 rebounds to give Gettysburg the victory in its home-opener against Centennial Conference (CC) rival Haverford 76-28 on Tuesday.
After the Bullets and the Fords traded baskets in their first possessions, Gettysburg went on a 14-0 run led by senior
Jen Nolan (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley) with five points.
Nolan started the Bullets run with two free throws at 18:58 left in the first half. Nolan then stole the ball from
Katisha Gopaul and passed it freshman
Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) for the layup.
Hodge made two free throws followed by a Falk layup to make the score 10-2. Falk then connected on a three-pointer to give the Bullets a 13-2 lead with 15:31 left in the half. Nolan capped off Gettysburg's run with a free throw at 14:12.
The Bullets then closed out the last nine minutes of the first half on a 19-6 run to take a 40-14 lead into halftime. Gettysburg held Haverford to 2-for-18 (11.1 percent) shooting, while the Fords made 10 of 17 free throws in the first half. In the second half, Haverford went 5-for-23 (21.7 percent) from the field, and ended the game a combined 7-for-41 (17.1 percent). The Bullets, on the other hand, shot 40.3 percent in the game, including 25-for-29 from the charity stripe.
Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) led all-scorers with 15 points, which tied her for tenth place on the program's all-time scoring list with
Cindy Palinski (841, 1982-86).
Falk chipped in 11 points and
Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/ Daniel Boone) recorded a career-high 10 points in the victory. Leading the way for Haverford was
Erin McCartney with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Gettysburg improved to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in CC play while the Fords fell to 1-2 and 0-1 in conference play.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday Oct. 28 when Gettysburg hosts conference-rival Ursinus. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
