men’s basketball action on Saturday.
Brian Loftus added 20 points,
including a 4-for-4 performance from 3-point range, as the

attempts on the night and saw their eight-game winning streak
– the program’s best-ever to open a season – come to an end.
The Blue Jays, who entered the game ranked
eighth in Division III in both scoring offense and field-goal
percentage, scored the game’s first seven points in the opening
1:17 on a turnaround from English, a trey from Porambo and
a transition layup by Loftus.
Keyed by eight points from McNeil, Gettysburg
answered with an 11-6 run that cut the deficit to 13-11 with
12:39 left in the first half, but the Bullets would get no
closer.
Loftus sandwiched a pair of threes around
a Marquette steal and Justin Edwards hit a layup
to make it a 10-point game.
Porambo pushed the lead to 12 by putting
back a Marquette missed three and English capped Elizabethtown’s
19-4 run with a third-chance put-back that made it 32-15 with
7:20 left before the break.
Loftus’ third triple of the game gave
the Blue Jays a 20-point lead and Heller hit 1 of 2 free throws
to make it 46-25 at halftime.
Elizabethtown maintained its comfortable
cushion throughout the second half, using a 22-4 run to put
the game out of sight.
Porambo added a game-high 10 rebounds
to go along with his 24-point outing while Rocky Parise
dished out a team-best seven assists. In addition to
their 53-percent shooting performance from the field, the
Blue Jays knocked down 9 of 14 3-pointers (64 percent).

margin of victory in the Gettysburg-Elizabethtown series was
a 106-68 Bullet victory in 1968.
