Gettysburg slow out of the gate as Myers leads #23 Johns Hopkins past Bullets, 76-59

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Maureen Myers scored 16 points to lead Johns Hopkins past Gettysburg 76-59 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Myers opened the scoring with a lay-up. Ashley Shempler gave Johns Hopkins a 4-0 lead with a lay-up at 17:54 remaining in the first half. Kathy Darling made back-to-back buckets followed by a Myers 3-pointer to give the Blue Jays an 11-0 lead at the 15:39 mark. Darling capped off the run with a layup.

The Bullets, who missed on their first nine shots, went on a 24-17 run in the next 13 minutes to cut the deficit to 30-24. Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) finally got the Gettysburg on the board with a layup with 14:55 remaining in the first half. Johns Hopkins went into halftime leading 36-26.

The Bullets started the second half missing on their first five shots, while the Blue Jays went on a 6-0 run to increase the Blue Jay lead to 42-28. Myers and Shempler started the second half with layups followed by two made free throws from Ashanna Randa with 15:22 remaining in the game.

Drevna led all scorers with 20 points and moved into eighth place on Gettysburg's all-time scoring list surpassing Kelly Finnegan (885).

Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Randall added 12 point in the Johns Hopkins victory, including 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Darling chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds.

The Bullets fell to 5-2 on the year and 3-1 in CC play, while the Blue Jays improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Gettysburg returns to action on Friday when the team host St. Mary's of Maryland in non-conference action. Start time is 7 p.m.
