WESTMINSTER, Md. - Jill Ibex scored a game-high 17 points to lead Western Maryland past Gettysburg 64-40 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday. The Bullets fell to 17-6 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
Katie Hewes (West Chester, PA/Villa Marie Acad.) and Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively, to combine for 27 of the Bullets' 40 points. Hewes' 14-point performance was a career high.
Western Maryland (16-6, 8-4 CC) went on a 7-0 run and held Gettysburg scoreless during the final four minutes of the first half. The Green Terror then used a 4-0 run in the beginning of the second half to increase their lead to 37-14 on a layup by Toby McIntire at the 16:50 mark.
The Bullets put together a 6-0 run halfway through the second half to make it 47-30, but the Green Terror answered with an 11-0 run at the 5:33 mark to increase the lead to 58-30.
Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) gave Gettysburg its only lead of the game with a 3-pointer at 19:05 to make it 3-2 in the first half, but Western Maryland took control of the game with a commanding 22-9 lead at the 6:07 mark of the first half.
Jen Piccolomini tallied 14 points and nine rebounds while Brenneman collected 12 points and Camey Brian added 10 rebounds for the Green Terror.
Gettysburg returns to action on Friday, February 16 at home against Dickinson College. Game time is 6 p.m.
