HAVERFORD, Pa. – Greg Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) led all scorers with 20 points as Gettysburg rolled over Haverford 62-46 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.
Curtis McNeil (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) was the only other Bullet to reach double figures, pouring in 14 points to go with three steals. Schreiber also snagged six boards and dished out a team-high five assists while John Schnebly (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) led Gettysburg with seven rebounds and added seven points.
After Haverford's Alec Evans tied it 21-21 with 5:17 left in the first half, Terence Callahan (Bay Shore, NY/St. Anthony's) knocked down a jumper to make it 23-21 and give the Bullets the lead for good with 4:55 left before halftime.
Keyed by five points from Schreiber, Gettysburg then went on an 11-0 run before Javier Garcia hit a 3-pointer with 53 seconds remaining to bring the Fords within 32-24.
Haverford trailed by five at halftime, but it was all Gettysburg in the second half. The Bullets extended their lead to 14 after Schreiber hit two free throws to make it 49-35 at the 10:24 mark.
Callahan assisted Schreiber on a field goal to make it 60-45 at 1:23. Gettysburg's Cody Bowers (Indiana, PA/Indiana) scored the final points of the game with 35 seconds remaining to make it 62-46.
Evans was the lone scorer in double figures for the Fords with 11 points while Cam Scribner and Garcia each added nine points. Scribner led Haverford with 11 rebounds and eight blocks.
Haverford (6-14, 2-7) took an early 13-10 lead in the game's first 8:07, but McNeil converted a 3-point play to tie the game 13-13 at 11:05 in the first half.
The Fords regained the lead at 17-15 on a field goal by Kevin Gregory before the Bullets' Jim Natale (Washington Crossing, PA/Council Rock) buried a jumper to knot it 19-19.
Gettysburg (12-8, 7-2) took the lead when Schreiber hit two free throws to make it 21-19 with 6:04 remaining in the half before Evans tied it for the final time.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, February 7 when they host CC West Division-leading Franklin & Marshall College. Game time is 8 p.m.
