MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Mandy Wilson (McClure, PA/Indian Valley) knocked in six runs and Erin Taylor (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) picked up a pair of victories as Gettysburg won three times in its final day of softball action in South Carolina on Friday.
The Bullets (6-1) slugged out 17 hits to down Marian (Wis.) 14-5 in the opener, then defeated Rhode Island College 4-2 and completed the sweep by coming back to beat Beaver 9-5 on the strength of a six-run sixth inning.
Wilson collected two RBI against Marian, then played a key role in the day's other two victories. She broke a 2-all tie by scoring the go-ahead run against Rhode Island and provided the big blow against Beaver with a three-run double that broke a 5-all deadlock in the sixth inning.
Taylor went the distance to pick up the win against Marian, then relieved Courtney Todd (Eagle, ID/Centennial) in the fourth inning against Beaver to improve to 3-0 in her first collegiate season.
In the opener, Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) led the 17-hit barrage, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Megan Procaccini (Ship Bottom, NJ/Peddie School) went 3-for-4 with three RBI against the Sabres while Emily Boardman (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) also knocked in three runs while rapping out a pair of hits.
Against Rhode Island, the Bullets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Todd drove in Procaccini with a base hit and Boardman walked and came around to score on a passed ball.
The Anchorwomen knotted the game with two runs in the third, but Gettysburg went ahead to stay in the fifth. Wilson and Mastropaolo drew walks and Procaccini sacrificed the runners to second and third ahead of an RBI fielder's choice from Boardman that made it 3-2.
Wilson added insurance by plating Jenna McRee (Norwich, VT/Hanover) with a single in the sixth inning. Lisa von dem Hagen (Berwyn, PA/Merion Mercy Acad.) allowed only four hits and struck out three to pick up the complete-game victory and improve to 2-0 this spring.
Against Beaver, Gettysburg trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth before exploding for six runs.
Procaccini walked, Boardman singled and Kristi Patterson (Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) drew a walk to load the bases. McRee followed with a walk to score Procaccini and Jenna Pabst (Boonton Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) singled home Boardman to tie the game at 5.
Wilson immediately untied things with a three-run double that made it 8-5. She moved to third on a Mastropaolo single and scored on a passed ball to cap the rally.
Pabst went 2-for-5 in the opener and added four hits against Beaver.
Gettysburg opens its northern schedule on Thursday, Mar. 22 with a home doubleheader against York. Game time is 3 p.m.
