Haugen, Blankenship score four in Bullets 14-5 win over Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) and Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay) scored goals four seconds apart midway through the first half to put sixth-ranked Gettysburg ahead to stay en route to a 14-5 win over Lynchburg in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Haugen, who scored four times on the afternoon, tied the game at 4 off an assist from Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) with 16:49 left in the first half.  Four seconds later, Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent County) set up Bucha to put the Bullets (3-0) ahead to stay at 5-4.

Blankenship scored the second of her four goals at the 8:28 mark to give Gettysburg a 6-4 lead at halftime and the Bullets outscored the Hornets 8-1 in the second half to cruise to the victory.

Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) scored twice and recorded 13 draw controls while Jessica Seedorf (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Ward Melville) also collected a pair of goals in the win.  Bucha added three assists to give her a team-high 21 points in three games this season.

Lauren Hedden and Lindsay Caruso each tallied a goal and an assist for Lynchburg (1-3).

Blankenship wasted little time putting Gettysburg on the board, scoring from Bucha in the game's first 15 seconds.  Murphy scored to make it 2-0 at the 28:39 mark, then set up Seedorf 10 seconds later for a 3-0 Bullet advantage.

Lynchburg stormed back with four goals over a span of 5:50, taking a 4-3 lead when Kate Habicht scored off a feed from Megan Clarke with 20:09 left in the half.

Haugen and Bucha, however, answered quickly to put the Bullets ahead for good, starting an 11-1 Gettysburg run over the remainder of the game.  Following a goal by Hedden with 20:56 left that pulled the Hornets within 7-5, the Bullets held Lynchburg scoreless the rest of the way.

Farrell added a goal to go along with her assist while Casey Costello (Tiburon, CA/Santa Catalina School) also chipped in with an assist in the win.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, Mar. 21 at 12th-ranked Drew.  Game time is 5 p.m.
