CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Emily Boardman (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) singled home Mandy Wilson (McClure, PA/Indian Valley) with two outs in the top of the seventh inning of game two to break a 1-all tie and help Gettysburg sweep a doubleheader from Washington, 8-2 and 2-1, in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.
Wilson, who went 4-for-6 on the afternoon to increase her team-high batting average to .559, tripled with one out in the top of the seventh inning and scored on Boardman's two-out single to right. Lisa von dem Hagen (Berwyn, PA/Merion Mercy Acad.) followed by tossing a hitless seventh to wrap up the complete-game victory and improve to 3-0.
Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) also went 4-for-6 on theday with a double, triple and two RBI to lead the Bullets (8-3, 2-0 CC) in their first conference action of the season.
Washington (5-7, 0-2 CC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of both games, but couldn't hold on either time.
In game one, Jen White (Quakertown, PA/Pennridge) walked and scored on a wild pitch in the second inning to even the score before the Bullets erupted for three runs in the third.
Jenna Pabst (Boonton Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) singled to open the frame, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on Wilson's first triple of the day to make it 2-1. Mastropaolo followed with her own triple to plate Wilson and Boardman singled for a 4-1 Gettysburg lead.
Following a two-out single by Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) in the fourth, the Bullets increased the lead to 6-1 on back-to-back RBI doubles from Wilson and Mastropaolo.
Kristi Patterson (Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) ripped a two-RBI double in the fifth frame to make it 8-1.
Gettysburg starter Erin Taylor (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) scattered seven hits and struck out two over seven innings to improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Shorewomen jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two, but Gettysburg tied the game without the benefit of a base hit in the fifth.
Simmons was hit by a pitch ahead of walks to Wilson and Mastropaolo. With one out, reliever Julie Bahus surrendered a wild pitch to plate Simmons and tie the game at 1.
Neither team broke the deadlock until Boardman delivered the game-winning hit in the seventh, extending her team-high hitting streak to 11 games.
Simmons collected two of Gettysburg's 12 hits in game one while White went 2-for-4 in the nightcap. Von dem Hagen allowed only six hits and one unearned run while striking out two in the game-two victory.
Gettysburg returns to action on Monday, Mar. 26 with a doubleheader at Elizabethtown. Game one starts at 3 p.m.
