Seedorf, Bucha lead Bullets to rainy win over Dickinson, 17-8

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Jessica Seedorf (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Ward Melville) scored a career-high four goals and Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay) added a hat trick and two assists to lead seventh-ranked Gettysburg past Dickinson 17-8 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Thursday.

 Playing in a steady rain throughout the game, the Bullets (4-1, 1-1 CC) used a 9-0 run across both halves to pick up their first CC win of the season.

 Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent County) and Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) each collected two goals and two assists while Kathryn Grassel (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills, East) found the net twice and picked up one assist.

 Abby Smith netted a hat trick for Dickinson (2-3, 1-2 CC) while Mandy Peirce collected four points and Allison Dunn scored a pair of goals.

 Both teams found the net twice in the opening 8:12 before Gettysburg erupted to take command.
 Blankenship scored unassisted at 20:51 to put the Bullets ahead to stay at 3-2, then assisted on Bucha's first goal with 14:56 left in the first half.

 Casey Costello (Tiburon, CA/Santa Catalina School) and Murphy scored to make it 6-2 with 8:14 remaining until halftime.

 Dickinson pulled within 7-4 on goals from Smith and Peirce, but Katie Merriken (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) found the net at 3:04 before Seedorf and Blankenship scored in the last 45 seconds of the half to give Gettysburg a 10-4 lead at the break.

 Seedorf struck for the Bullets' first goal of the second half at 27:49, touching off a 6-0 run over the next 7:02 that built the Gettysburg lead to 16-4 with 20:47 left in the game.

 Bullet freshman Jess Segar (West Chester, PA/Villa Maria Acad.) converted a free-position shot with 14:45 remaining for her first collegiate goal.

 Merriken finished with a goal and an assist in the win while Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) also picked up a goal on the day.  Bucha increased her team-leading point total to 30 in the Bullets' first five games of 2001.

 Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 31 at home against Washington (Md.).  Game time is 1 p.m.
