Haugens five-point day leads Gettysburg past Washington, 11-7

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) scored the go-ahead goal among her game-high five points to lead seventh-ranked Gettysburg past Washington 11-7 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

 Haugen finished a solo run with 7:03 left in the first half to break a 3-all tie and start a 6-1 Bullet run that keyed the win.

 Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) added two goals and an assist for Gettysburg (5-1, 2-1 CC) while Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent County) and Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay) each scored twice.

 Tracy Smet led the Shorewomen (2-3, 2-1 CC) with four goals, including three on free-position shots in the second half that cut the Bullet lead to 10-7 with 9:37 remaining.  Washington goalie Johanna McCormick made 16 saves on the afternoon.

 Goals from Minta Sayres and Smet gave the Shorewomen a 2-0 lead in the game's first 9:13 before Gettysburg got on the scoreboard.

 Murphy scored from Haugen on a quick cut to the net at the 18:14 mark to make it 2-1, then set up Bucha in transition to knot the game at 2 with 13:58 left in the half.

 With the score tied 3-3, Haugen beat McCormick with 7:03 left to give the Bullets the lead for good at 4-3.

 Blankenship scored into an empty net following a McCormick foul at 4:25 and Murphy closed out the half with her second goal for a 6-3 lead at the break.

 Haugen and Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) each picked up a goal and an assist in the first 10 minutes of the second half to help Gettysburg extend the lead to 9-4 with 20:08 left.

 Washington pulled within 10-7 on three straight free-position goals from Smet, but Casey Costello (Tiburon, CA/Santa Catalina School) picked off an errant clear and scored with 4:38 left to seal the win.

 Michele Centrella (Greenville, DE/Tatnall School) made eight saves for Gettysburg, which outshot the Shorewomen 35-18 on the afternoon.

 Hanley and Janet Studdiford also scored one goal apiece for Washington.

 Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 3 at Drew.  Game time is 5 p.m.
