College of New Jersey uses second-half outburst to down Gettysburg, 16-10

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Carin Heller and Tara Prindible scored five goals apiece to lead third-ranked College of New Jersey past No. 10 Gettysburg 16-10 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday.

Heller netted the go-ahead goal with 6:39 left in the first half, breaking a 2-all tie and sending the Lions (6-1) to their fifth straight win.  Prindible staked TCNJ to a 7-2 lead early in the second half and scored the first two goals of an 8-2 run pushed the Lion advantage to 15-6 with 6:07 to play.

Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) led the Bullets (7-3) with two goals and one assist on the day.  Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay), Jessica Seedorf (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Ward Melville) and Amy Farell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) also scored two goals apiece in Gettysburg's first meeting with TCNJ since a 16-7 loss in last year's NCAA quarterfinals.

With the score tied 2-2 in a deliberately-paced first half, the Lions took control with a 5-0 run bridging both halves.

Heller picked up a loose ball caused by a Megan McCall stick check and finished her solo run to the goal for a 3-2 lead with 6:39 left in the first half.

A little over three minutes later, the freshman spun right and fired high to beat Bullet goalie Liz Borucki (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) for a 4-2 advantage.

Gettysburg gained possession on the ensuing draw control and held the ball for nearly two minutes before an illegal pick gave it back to TCNJ with 1:27 remaining before the break.

Liz O'Connor cashed in the turnover on a cutting shot across the goal mouth with 35 seconds left for a 5-2 halftime lead.

O'Connor made it 6-2 just 1:53 into the second half off a feed from McCall, who passed out of a free-position attempt to set up the goal.  Twenty-nine seconds later Prindible scored on a solo run for a 7-2 Lion lead with 27:38 remaining.

Gettysburg fought back to within 7-4 on a free-position goal from Farrell at 20:35 and a marker from Bucha with 17:08 left.  Haugen passed out of a free-position opportunity to set up the latter goal.

Borucki made a pair of clutch saves on TCNJ free-position shots to keep the Bullets within striking distance, but Prindible scored twice in 46 seconds to touch off an 8-2 run over a span of 8 minutes, 26 seconds that put the Lions ahead 15-6 with 6:07 left.

Gettysburg closed the game on a 4-1 run to post the highest goal total allowed by a TCNJ opponent this season.

Borucki finished with 13 saves in her third collegiate start while Tiffany Trockenbrod recorded 14 stops for the Lions.

Casey Costello (Tiburon, CA/Santa Catalina School) scored on a sharp-angle shot with 11:40 left in the game that pulled Gettysburg within 11-5.  Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) added a goal and an assist in the loss.

O'Connor finished with two goals and three assists for TCNJ.

Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday, Apr. 12 at home against Muhlenberg.  Game time is 4 p.m.
