Blankenship, Haugen lead Gettysburg past Muhlenberg, 20-4

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent County) tied a career high with six points and Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) scored four goals as Gettysburg posted its highest goal total of the season in a 20-4 win over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Thursday.

Blankenship and Haugen combined for eight points in the game's first 27 minutes, 10 seconds, helping the Bullets (8-3, 5-1) race to a 13-2 halftime lead and improve to 14-0 all-time against the Mules (3-8, 2-6 CC).

Jessica Seedorf (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Ward Melville) added a hat trick in the win while Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay [NY]) tallied two goals and two assists.  Gettysburg's 20-goal output was the team's first this season and first 20-goal showing since a 24-14 win over Ursinus on Mar. 25, 2000.

Miruna Lovin scored twice for Muhlenberg while Sarah Bowman and Lynsey Caldwell also found the net in the loss.

Keyed by three points apiece from Blankenship and Bucha, the Bullets broke open an early 1-1 tie with seven straight goals over a span of 5:32.

Haugen finished a solo run to put Gettysburg ahead tostay at 2-1 with 24:33 left in the first half.  Bucha made it 3-1 off a nifty no-look feed from Blankenship at 24:21, then fed Seedorf 40 seconds later for a three-goal Bullet lead.

Ashley Froman (Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven) set up Gettysburg's next marker, scooping up a loose ball in the Bullets' defensive zone and hitting Blankenship on a long outlet pass.  The freshman finished her half-field run by deking two Mule defenders and ripping the net for a 5-1 advantage with 22:20 left in the half.

Bucha and Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) scored unassisted goals in traffic for a 7-1 lead with 19:18 to play in the first.  Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) scored in close from a Blankenship feed at 19:01 to cap the run.

Bowman scored unassisted to break the Mules' scoring drought at 15:03, but the Bullets rattled off the game's next nine goals to take a 17-2 lead following Haugen's final tally with 16:42 left.

Gettysburg freshmen Erin O'Donnell (Media, PA/Penncrest) and Jacquie O'Connor (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) each scored their first collegiate goals in the game while Emily Waldron (Chevy Chase, MD/Newtown Country Day [MA]) and Erica Affleck (Abington, PA/Abington) each collected an assist for their first collegiate point.

The loss spoiled the homecoming of first-year Muhlenberg head coach Kristen Stuckel, a four-year letterwinner on the Gettysburg women's lacrosse team from 1992-95 and one of the program's assistant coaches from 1998-2000.

Muhlenberg goalie Stephanie Ahrens made 11 saves on the afternoon.

Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 17 at Western Maryland.  Game time is 4 p.m.
