WESTMINSTER, Md. - Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) scored a game-high four goals and added an assist, while Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay [NY]) lead all point scorers with a hat trick and five assists as Gettysburg downed Western Maryland 19-12 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Tuesday.
Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) and Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) both tallied a hat trick for the Bullets (9-3, 6-1), and combined for another four assists to bring the Green Terror's (5-7, 3-4) four-game winning streak to an end.
Katie Merriken (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Jessica Seedorf (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Ward Melville) both recorded a pair of goals and an assist in the victory.
Amy Bittinger and Erin Mulhern both found the net three times for Western Maryland, as well as added an assist each in the losing effort.
Gettysburg opened the game with a Western Maryland crippling 5-0 run, including four goals in the first four minutes of play. Bucha cracked the scoreboard first off a feed from Merriken a mere 31 seconds after the opening draw, and ended the Bullet run by assisting Murphy at 21:33.
The Green Terror finally broke the shutout when Mulhern powered her way past the battlefield defense and beat Bullet goalie Michele Centrella (Greenville, DE/Tatnall School) for the unassisted score.
Centrella and Liz Borucki (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) combined for six saves in the Gettysburg net.
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday, Apr. 19 at Bryn Mawr. Game time is 4 p.m.
