GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Tommy Pearce (Chestertown, MD/Woodberry Forest Sch. [VA]) and Wes Cadman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) both tallied four goals and an assist to lead No. 2 Gettysburg past Dickinson 23-5 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
With the victory, Gettysburg (11-1, 5-0 CC) locks up the top seed and hosting rights for the four-team CC postseason tournament. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, Apr. 27 with the championship game slated for Sunday, Apr. 29.
Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Brighton) notched a hat trick and two assists as the Bullets won their ninth straight contest, a feat they last accomplished in 1992. Jake Van Nostrand (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and Charlie Hanchett (Annapolis, MD/Stony Brook Sch. [NY]) each netted a pair of goals and a pair of assists as Gettysburg beat Dickinson (3-6, 1-3 CC) for the 26 consecutive time.
Bullet goalie Tim McGinnis (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola-Blakefield) recorded a season low 4 saves while facing 19 Dickinson shots.
The Red Devils, who have managed only two goals a year against Gettysburg since 1997, beat the four-year average with a pair of goals from Jordan Seiken and two goals and an assist from Matt McFarland.
Pearce and Cadman wasted no time in pursuit of their game-high five-point performances, as Cadman hit Pearce for the opening goal at 13:26 in the first quarter. Pearce returned for an unassisted tally at 9:47,and Cadman cranked home an unassisted score of his own a minute later to stake the Bullet lead to 3-0.
The Red Devils made their offensive presence known at 6:44 when Seiken cranked Dickinson's first shot of the contest slightly wide of the Gettysburg net. At 2:07 Seiken made good on his threat when he powered through a Gettysburg defender and whipped a one-handed shot over the top of another Bullet, reeling the home team back to within two goals.
Gettysburg took up the challenge and 30 seconds later notched another score on the board, this time compliments of Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) via Chris Baran (Newington, CT/Newington). Van Nostrand closed out the remainder of the opening quarter with his two goals of the contest, posting the Bullets lead at 6-1.
Gettysburg out shot the Red Devils 51-19 and won 25 of the 30 faceoffs.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 21 away at Swarthmore. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
