GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Mandy Wilson (McClure, PA/Indian Valley) went 4-for-8 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored while Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) added a double, triple, three RBI and one run scored as Gettysburg swept Franklin & Marshall, 5-4 and 11-3 in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Wednesday.
With the pair of wins, the Bullets (20-5, 11-1 CC) clinch a spot in the inaugural CC playoffs to be held on Apr. 27-28 with site and time to be determined. The wins also give Gettysburg its fifth straight 20-win season.
Jen White (Quakertown, PA/Pennridge) went 3-for-4 with two RBI in game one while Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) went 2-for-4 with one RBI as Gettysburg battled back to defeat the Diplomats 5-4 in eight innings.
Jenna McRee (Norwich, VT/Hanover) came in to run for Kristi Patterson (Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) and scored the winning run when White slashed a single to left center.
Patterson drew a one-out walk in the eighth inning and went to second on a two-out single by Jenna Pabst (Boonton Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes).
The Bullets tied the game 4-all in the bottom of the seventh as Wilson scored from second on a sacrifice fly by Mastropaolo.
The Diplomats (8-16, 4-8 CC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kate Cashdollar ripped a one-out triple in the first inning and later scored on a passed ball.
Franklin & Marshall made it 3-0 with two runs in the third inning as Diana D'Amico reached on an error by Erin Taylor (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake), allowing D'Amico to move to second on the overthrow.
D'Amico went to third on a double by Alison Barrett, then scored on a single by Cashdollar for the Diplomats second run. Barrett later scored on a wild pitch by Taylor.
The Bullets tied it 3-all in the fourth inning when Emily Boardman (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) reached on a walk, then scored Gettysburg's first run on a single by Sarah Stokes (Towson, MD/Towson).
Courtney Todd (Eagle, ID/Centennial) followed with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt by Patterson and scored on White's single. Megan Procaccini (Ship Bottom, NJ/Peddie School) reached on a walk and later scored on Simmons' single up the middle to make it 3-3.
Leah Shams singled in the sixth inning and scored on Brianne Power's single for the Diplomats final run.
Taylor allowed 11 hits and two earned runs while striking out three in eight innings to pick up her 10th win of the season.
In game two, Wilson went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple and two runs scored while Mastropaolo and Boardman each went 2-for-4 with two RBI as Gettysburg downed Franklin & Marshall 11-3 in six innings.
The Bullets took a 4-0 lead after two innings before the Diplomats posted their only three runs in the third inning.
Boardman scored Simmons and Wilson in the first inning while Procaccini and Patterson each doubled and scored in the second inning.
Cashdollar, Jen Fried and D'Amico all scored the Diplomats' only three runs of the game in the third inning to make it 4-3.
Gettysburg added three runs on three hits in the fourth inning and posted four more runs on five hits in the sixth inning to end the game.
Lisa von dem Hagen (Berwyn, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) allowed five hits and three runs while striking out three in six innings to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 21 with a Centennial Conference doubleheader at Ursinus. Game one starts at 1:00 p.m.
