Bullets wrap up regular season with 18-6 win at Swarthmore

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) scored a game-high three goals and added an assist as the second-ranked Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team downed Swarthmore 18-6 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.

With the victory, Gettysburg finishes its regular season schedule with a 12-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in CC play.

Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Brighton) used a pair of goals and three assists to notch a game-high five points as the Bullets won their 10th straight contest, a feat they last accomplished in 1991 when Gettysburg won 12 straight games.

Jake Van Nostrand (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and Charlie Hanchett (Annapolis, MD/Stony Brook Sch. [NY]) each netted a pair of goals and a pair of assists for the second straight game, as the Bullets beat Swarthmore (3-9, 0-6) for the eighth straight time.

Gettysburg wasted no time executing its dominance of the playing field, as the Bullets used the first quarter and part of the second to build an 8-0 lead. Milliman was the first to find the net, burying a feed from Wes Cadman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) at the 14:05, and then dishing an assist to Bremer at 11:49. Tommy Pearce (Chestertown, MD/Woodberry Forest Sch. [VA]) scored Gettysburg's third goal with the help of Van Nostrand before Milliman and Bremer reversed roles at 3:03 for the Bullets' fourth goal.

Sophomore Peter Politi (Wilton, CT/Wilton) closed out the opening quarter for Gettysburg, scoring unassisted at 2:18 and assisting Hanchett at 1:23 to give the visitors the 6-0 lead.

Milliman and Politi both found the net to open the day's second chapter before Swarthmore's Blake Atkins (Cockeysville, MD/Gilman) ended the shutout, scoring off an assist from Than Court (Harwood, MD/St. Andrew's [DE]). Using the momentum, the Garnet managed their second straight score as John Murphy (Wilton, CT/Fairfield College Prep.) found the net unassisted at 5:51.

The Bullets used the remainder of the half and part of the third quarter to rally for a 6-0 run. Gettysburg goalie Tim McGinnis (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola-Blakefield) recorded 13 saves on the afternoon while backup goal tenders Byron Banghart (White Hall, MD/North Harford) and Charles Mahle (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day School) combined for three saves.

The Bullets return to action on Friday, Apr. 27 when they host Franklin & Marshall (10-4, 4-2 CC) in the semifinals of the CC postseason tournament. Game time TBA.
