Bullets wrap up regular season with 13-7 win at F&M, will rematch Diplomats in CC semifinals on Saturday

LANCASTER, Pa. – Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) scored four goals for the third time in five games to lead ninth-ranked Gettysburg over No. 13 Franklin & Marshall 13-7 in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse finale for both teams on Wednesday.

With the win, the Bullets (12-3, 8-1 CC) earned the No. 2 seed in this weekend's CC playoffs and will rematch the Diplomats (11-4, 7-2 CC) in the conference semifinals on Saturday at Ursinus.  Game time is 3:30 p.m.

Haugen scored three of her team's first six goals to stake the defending CC champions to a 7-2 halftime lead en route to their fifth straight win.

Gettysburg freshman Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) posted her second career hat trick while Casey Costello (Tiburon, CA/Santa Catalina School) added two goals and an assist.

After holding Randolph-Macon scoreless for the game's first 21 minutes on Saturday, the Bullets kept F&M off the board for almost 20 minutes while building a 5-0 lead.

Haugen opened the scoring 2:30 into the first half and made it 2-0 only 27 seconds later on a pair of unassisted goals.

Farrell set up Costello on a one-timer at the 23:45 mark, then made it 4-0 off a pass from Jessica Seedorf (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Ward Melville) with 19:24 left before halftime, forcing a Diplomat timeout.

Farrell had another goal disallowed on a crease violation at 14:40, but the Bullets controlled the ball for the next three minutes before Katie Merriken (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) netted an unassisted marker to make it 5-0 with 11:41 remaining in the first half.

Twenty-six seconds later, F&M broke the scoring drought when Laura Fine tallied the first of her two goals off a pass from Cynthia DaCosta.

It took Gettysburg nine seconds to answer that goal when Haugen won the draw control and finished a half-field run to cap her hat trick.

Farrell scored from Costello at 9:57 for a 7-1 edge.  Laura Langmore answered 37 seconds later with a free-position goal that keyed a 5-1 run to pull the Diplomats within 8-6 with 17:13 left in the game.

Seedorf gave the Bullets breathing room with an unassisted marker at 15:17 and Costello netted a free-position goal with 12:33 left for a 10-6 lead.

Farrell capped her hat trick at 9:29 to make it 11-6 and Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay) added the Bullets' last two goals in the game's final 4:14.

Michele Centrella (Greenville, DE/Tatnall School) made four saves while allowing only two goals in 30 minutes of work for Gettysburg.

Haugen's four goals gives her 38 for the season, surpassing Bucha (37) for the team lead heading into the postseason.
