WESTMINSTER, Md. – Mandy Wilson (McClure, PA/Indian Valley) has posted 52 hits this season to break the season hitting record (49) as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to help fourth-seeded Gettysburg defeat Ursinus 6-4 in the elimination round of the Centennial Conference (CC) softball playoffs on Sunday.
In the championship game, Muhlenberg's Jackie Maser scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning to lift the Mules over the Bullets, 3-2.
Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI while Jenna Pabst (Boonton Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) went 2-for-4 with one run scored in game one.
With the Bullets ahead 5-1 after five innings, the Bears rallied back to score three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 5-4.
Sue Sobolewski started off the sixth inning with a triple for Ursinus and scored on an RBI single by Jennifer Prendiville to make it 5-2 and Sarah Smith reached on an error sending Prendiville to second, then to third on another error.
Jennifer Baci used a sacrifice fly to knock in Prendiville before Jessica Troutman collected an RBI single to knock in pinch runner Allison Vasta for Ursinus' final run of the game.
Gettysburg added an insurance run in the top of the seventh before allowing only one hit to the Bears in their final time at bat.
Wilson collected her third hit of the game with a single in the seventh inning, then stole second and scored on a two-out RBI single by Mastropaolo.
Gettysburg jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) and Wilson scored on a two-RBI double by Mastropaolo.
The Bullets posted two more runs in the fourth inning as Emily Boardman (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) reached on an error before scoring on another error. Courtney Todd (Eagle, ID/Centennial) singled and scored on an RBI single by Megan Procaccini (Ship Bottom, NJ/Peddie School) to make it 4-1.
For Gettysburg, Lisa von dem Hagen (Berwyn, Pa/Merion Mercy Academy) fired five innings allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one to collect the win and improve to 9-1 this season. Sarah Stokes (Towson, MD/Towson) pitched two innings of relief and allowed one run on two hits to collect her third save of the season.
In the game two, Jen White (Quakertown, PA/Pennridge) collected two of Gettysburg's four hits by going 2-for-3 while Wilson went 1-for-2 with a two-run homerun as the Bullets fell to Muhlenberg 3-2 for the second time in two days.
Pabst lead off the game with a walk followed by Wilson's two-run blast over the left field fence, scoring Gettysburg's only two runs of the game.
The Mules posted the winning run in the fourth inning when Maser reached on a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by pinch hitter Kelly Berg and scored on an RBI single by Kate Dischino to win the championship.
Muhlenberg tied the game 2-all when pitcher Danielle DeLucia reached on a single and scored on an error while Lori Blanchfield reached on an error and scored on an RBI single by Becky Toth in the bottom of the third inning.
DeLucia threw seven innings and allowed four hits while striking out four for the Mules.
For the Bullets, Erin Taylor (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) went four and two-thirds innings allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out one. Stokes pitched one and one-third innings of relief while allowing one hit.
Gettysburg remains in the running for an ECAC bid. The field will be announced on May 7.
