Mastropaolo leads Bullets past Messiah, 4-2, 4-2

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Sophomore Stephanie Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) went 3-for-7 on the day with two doubles and three RBI to help Gettysburg sweep two games from Messiah in non-conference softball action on Thursday.

 The Bullets (11-4) broke a 2-all tie when Mandy Wilson (McClure, PA/Indian Valley) knocked in Kristi Patterson (Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2 in the fifth and regain the lead for good en route to a 4-2 win in the opener.

In the second game, freshman Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/ Daniel Boone) reached on an error, then scored on Mastropaolo's single as Gettysburg tied the game 1-all before using three hits to score three times in the sixth. The Falcons (10-11) would score one run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Gettysburg went on to win 4-2.

 In the opener, the Bullets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Falcons answered with two runs in the third inning to tie it 2-all.

 Gettysburg scored one run in the fifth, added a run in the seventh on an RBI double by Mastropaolo, then held Messiah scoreless in the last four innings.

 Freshman Erin Taylor (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) allowed six hits and two runs while striking out three in five innings.

 Megan Procaccini (Ship Bottom, NJ/Peddie School) and Patterson each went 2-for-3 with one run scored while Jenna Pabst (Boonton Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) went 2-for-4 in game one.

 Messiah got their only two runs in the third inning when Christina Wessman reached on a one-out single and scored on an RBI triple by Angela Munchel.  Munchel then scored on an RBI single by Stephanie Gerig.

 In the nightcap, Mastropaolo went 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and a double while Wilson went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 Wilson reached on a one-out single in the sixth, stole second and scored on an RBI double by Mastropaolo.

 Mastropaolo then moved to third on a single by freshman Jessi Jordan (Aurora, NY/Southern Cayuga Central) and then scored, along with Jordan, on a two-RBI single by Courtney Todd (Eagle, ID/Centennial) to make it 3-2.

 For Messiah, Jaime Batchelor started the third with a single, moved to second on a passed ball and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Deanna Ng. Batchelor then scored on an error by Lisa von dem Hagen (Berwyn, PA/Merion Mercy Academy).

 The Falcons got their second run of the game in the seventh when Amanda Robinson reached on an error by Todd, then scored on an RBI triple by Wessman.

 Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 7 with a Centennial Conference doubleheader against Haverford.  The first game starts at 1 p.m.
