No. 11 Gettysburg defeats Franklin & Marshall 11-9 in semifinals of ECAC tournament

GENEVA, N.Y. – Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) scored a game-high four goals while Casey Costello (Tiburon, CA/Santa Catalina School) and Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay) added two goals apiece as No. 11 Gettysburg downed Franklin & Marshall 11-9 in the semifinals of the women's lacrosse Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament on Saturday.

 Gettysburg (14-5) advances to the championship game against host William Smith on Sunday, May 13 at 2:30 p.m. in Geneva, NY.

 Laura Langmore and Lauren Paul led the Diplomats (11-5) with three goals each while Caroline Gibson posted two goals.

 The Bullets found the net first on the day when Costello tallied an unassisted goal at 22:20 to give Gettysburg the early lead.

 A little over two minutes later Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent County) found Bucha for an assisted goal at 19:54 to make it 2-0.

 Gettysburg took a 3-0 lead after Susie Mitchell (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) assisted Bucha's second goal of the day at 17:31.

 Franklin & Marshall quickly rallied back from the three-goal deficit when Gibson scored on a pass from Sarah Yonker at 11:43 followed by an unassisted goal by Langmore a minute later.

 Jessica Seedorf (Port Jefferson Sation, NY/Ward Melville) found Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) at 4:19 to make it 4-2 before Paul posted the Diplomats' third goal of the game at 2:43. Murphy gave the Bullets a two-goal lead with 49 seconds remaining in the first half.

 Leading 5-3 at the start of the second half, Gettysburg came out strong scoring the first six goals of the half to increase their lead to 11-3.

Murphy collected the first three goals of the half while Mitchell, Katie Merriken (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Blankenship each added a goal for the Bullets.

 Franklin & Marshall responded by using the remainder of the half to rattle off six straight goals to cut the lead to 11-9 with nine seconds remaining in the game.

 Langmore and Paul each added two goals while Laura Fine and Gibson each added a goal apiece in the second half.

 Bullet starting goalie Liz Borucki (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) finished the day with two saves and three goals against, while Bullet backup keeper Michelle Centrella (Greenville, DE/Tatnall School) notched four saves and six goals against.

 No. 11 Gettysburg advances to the championship game against host No. 12 William Smith on Sunday, May 13. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
