GETTYSBURG, Pa - Matt Bills
and Troy Sauer each had two goals to help defending
national champions and top-ranked Messiah College defeat Gettysburg
College 6-0 on Thursday.
Matt Crist scored three minutes
into the game to put the Falcons up 1-0. Bills increased Messiah's
lead when he netted a goal off a Crist assist. Sauer then
headed a goal in from a Matthew Snavely pass
from the midfield.
Sauer, Bills and Bill Crompton added goals for
the Falcons in the second half.
The Bullets only managed one shot in the first half, but were
able to get off seven attempts in the second half. Clayton
Krum (Hellertown, PA/Moravian Academy) led the Bullets
with two shot attempts.
Chris Boyles and Aaron Swartz
combined to earn the shutout for Messiah with Boyles having
two saves in the game. Steve Kopp (Upper Monclair, NJ/Monclair)
had five saves in 76 minutes of play, while
David Love (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill) had
two stops in 14 minutes of action for Gettysburg.
The victory extends the Falcons winning streak to 21, while
the loss stops the Bullets 33 game unbeaten streak at home.
Messiah improves to 4-0 on the season, while
Gettysburg falls to 4-1 on the year. The Bullets will be in
action on Saturday when they open their conference schedule
at Washington College. Game time is 1 p.m.
