CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Sophomore Andrew Smith
(Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) scored the game-winning
goal to give Gettysburg a 2-1 win against Washington in the
Centennial Conference season-opener for both teams on Saturday.
Smith netted the unassisted goal and
gave the Bullets a 2-1 lead with 15:34 remaining in the game.
Gettysburg (5-1, 1-0 CC) evened the score 1-1
at the 47:51 mark of the second half when Michael Bruno
(Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) tapped
in a goal off an assist from Will Hohman (Landenberg,
PA/St. Marks) .
The Shoremen (1-3-1, 0-1 CC) jumped out
to an early 1-0 lead when Dave Dudick beat two
Gettysburg defenders and knocked in a goal just over four
minutes into the game.
For the Bullets, Steve Kopp (Upper
Monclair, NJ/Monclair) had seven saves in 90 minutes
of play while Ryan Miller recorded nine saves
in 90 minutes for the Shoremen. Gettysburg outshot Washington
13-8 while each team tallied four corner kicks.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday,
Sept. 19 at York College. Match time is 4 p.m.
