GETTYSBURG, Pa. - David Vassilaros hit the game-winning goal to give Muhlenberg a 1-0 overtime win over conference-rival Gettysburg on Saturday.

Vassilaros hit the penalty kick to the left of Bullet goalkeeper Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) in the 97th minute to give the Mules the victory. The Mules were awarded a penalty kick after the Bullets were called for a foul at the top left of the goalie box.

Gettysburg played the last 33:02 of the game two-men down to Muhlenberg, in a game that had 10 cards (six Gettysburg, four Muhlenberg) given out to both teams.

The Bullets kept the Mules goalie, Rob Pomento on his toes, outshooting the Mules 14-8. The Bullets had several missed scoring opportunities in the game. Michael Sarbaugh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) hit Malcom Thomas (Conway, NH/North Yarmouth Academy) to give Gettysburg a two-on-one scoring opportunity, but Thomas missed high in the first half of the game.

In the second half, Pomento made diving saves on shots from James Bealer (Darien, CT/Darien) and Clayton Krum (Hellerstown, PA/Moravian Academy) in a two-minute time span.

Kopp had three saves for the Bullets while Pomento had a season-high nine saves for the Mules in the game.

Muhlenberg improves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference, while Gettysburg falls to 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in the conference.

The Bullets will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Western Maryland. Game time is 4 p.m.
