SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Mike Bevilacqua (Marshfield,
MA/Thayer Acad.) scored a goal in each half to lead
Gettysburg past Susquehanna 2-0 in non-conference men’s soccer
action on Tuesday.
Bevilacqua, who netted his first collegiate
goal in last season’s meeting with the Crusaders, found the
net 33:49 into the match off a pass from Mike Bruno
(Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp.) to give the Bullets
a 1-0 lead. The assist was Bruno’s third point in two
games this season, following a goal against Frostburg State
on Saturday.
Bevilacqua then deflected home a shot
off a Susquehanna defender in the 78th minute for a 2-0 Gettysburg
lead. The two-goal performance was the first of his
collegiate career.
Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair)
made three saves on the afternoon, including a stop on Crusader
Brandon Emery halfway through the second half
that preserved the Bullets’ one-goal edge. Susquehanna
goalie Patrick Quillian made nine saves for
the home squad.
Gettysburg outshot Susquehanna 18-5 for
the game and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Bullets, ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic
Region, return to action on Friday, Sept. 7 or Saturday, Sept.
8 at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic. Opponent and
game time are to be determined.
