GRANTHAM, Pa. – Erin Benedict and
Sara Strzaepek combined for three goals to help 14th-ranked
Messiah defeat Gettysburg 3-0 in non-conference action on
Wednesday.
Benedict scored the game’s first goal from
a Jennifer Sapp rebound in the 29th minute.
Strzaepak made the score 2-0 off a penalty
shot from 10-yards out in the 51st minute. Strzaepak
sealed the Falcons victory when she beat two Bullet defenders
to knock in the score from a Melissa Lehman assist
in the 75th minute.
Gettysburg managed only two shots on the
game while Messiah took 13 shots on goal. The Bullets
best chance of getting on the scoreboard came when Molly
Bauer's (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) shot was saved
by Falcons' netminder Danielle Wardin in the 72nd minute.
Bullet goalkeeper Carine Doyle (Exton,
PA/Bishop Shanahan) had four saves while Maggie Futato
and Wardin each had a save in 45 minutes of action for Messiah.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday,
Sept. 8 at home against John Carroll. Game time is 1
p.m.
