Howanski leads Franklin & Marshall past Gettysburg 76-66 in CC action

LANCASTER, Pa. – Lauren Howanski recorded 21 points and Amy Kreitz chipped in 16 points to lead Franklin & Marshall past Gettysburg 76-66 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.

Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) led the Bullets with a career-high 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

With Gettysburg holding a 33-31 advantage, the Diplomats went on a 7-2 run in the final three minutes of the first half.

Howanski hit two free throws to key the run before Kreitz hit a jumper and a free throw to give the Diplomats a 36-33 lead.

Keriann Van Nostrand (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) knocked down a jumper for the Bullets before F&M's Jessie Atkins scored on a jumper and Lauren Dodrill converted a layup to give the Diplomats a 39-35 lead at halftime.

Gettysburg tied the game 45-45, but could only manage one field goal in the next nine minutes as F&M went on a 16-6 run to seal the victory.

With the score knotted 14-all, the Diplomats pushed their lead to 22-14 after Kreitz knocked down a 3-pointer with 13:37 left in the first half.

Hodge, who scored 15 of her 18 points in the first half, sank the front end of two free throws to cut the lead to 17-15, bringing the Bullets within two.

The Diplomats (8-4, 3-2 CC) responded with a trey and a jumper from Jaime Drahos with 11:03 remaining in the half.

Gettysburg (7-7, 3-3 CC) answered with jumpers from Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's School) and Adrienne Lampe (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) to pull the Bullets within one, 22-21 with 9:00 left in the half.

Ross scored 13 points while Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) tallied 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) chipped in 10 points while Jen Nolan (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley) and Ross each dished out three assists for Gettysburg.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday when they host conference foe Western Maryland. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
