Lebanon Valley defeats Gettysburg off Tighe free throw with 7 seconds remaining, 49-48

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Stephanie Tighe hit the back end of two free throws lead Lebanon Valley past Gettysburg 49-48 in women's basketball non-conference action.

Tighe, the team's leading scorer on the year, led the Flying Dutchmen with 13 points, while Jennifer Northcott added 12 points in the victory, including eight points in the second half.

Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) and Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's School) each had a game-high 11 points for Gettysburg with Ross recording her third double-double of the season with a team-high 14 rebounds. Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) chipped in 10 points.

In a tale of two halves, the Bullets (8-9) dominated the first half, but out of the locker room in the second half Gettysburg could not find an answer to Tighe and Northcott and Lebanon Valley overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the Bullets.

With Gettysburg leading 48-45 with 41 seconds left in the game, Tighe hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 48-48. On the next possession, the Bullets turned the ball over with 13 seconds left. Tighe was fouled with 7 seconds left and hit the back end of two free throws to give the Flying Dutchmen a 49-48 lead.

Dana Bear's (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) shot at the buzzer hit the rim and Lebanon Valley came way with the 49-48 victory.

Fueled by a 20-6 run out of the break, the Flying Dutchmen (13-3) took a 39-34 lead with 12:19 left in the game. Northcott, the current Commonwealth Player of the Week, made four straight buckets in a four-minute span. Tighe had five points in that span, including the trey that capped off the run at the 13:17 mark.

Gettysburg battled back with a 12-4 run to take a 48-45 lead in a span of 10 minutes. Hodge started the run with a jumper with 11:48 left.

Tighe made two free throws to maintain the three-point advantage with the score 41-38. Drevna and Northcott traded baskets before the Bullets reeled off eight straight points. Bear and Ross each hit a jumper. Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) capped off the run with her only two field goals of the game with a Christine Bigler jumper sandwiched between to give the Bullets a 48-45 advantage with 57 seconds left in the game.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first 10 minutes of the game before the Bullets went on a 9-2 run to give Gettysburg a 21-12 lead with six minutes remaining in the half. Lebanon Valley responded with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 21-19 before the Bullets ended the half with a 7-0 run of their own.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday when they host Dickinson in Centennial Conference action. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
