Bear's 27 points too hot for Red Devils to handle as Gettysburg defeats Dickinson 72-57

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) scored a season-high 27 points to lead Gettysburg past Dickinson 72-57 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Bear went 9-for-18 from the floor, including 2-for-5 behind the 3-point line and 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.

Jay Hodge (Silver Springs, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) chipped in 12 points off the bench and Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's School) recorded eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

Alexis Falvello led the Red Devils (7-10, 1-6 CC) with 14 points and eight rebounds. Megan Shelley chipped in 10 points in a losing effort.

The two teams struggled for the first five minutes of the game, but then the Bullets (9-9, 5-4) went on a run to take charge of the contest and never looked back. Dickinson was able to cut the deficit to eight, but could get no closer and Gettysburg, who has won the last 12 meeting in the series, came away with their fifth conference win of the year.

After both teams traded baskets for the first five minutes of the game, the Bullets 17-4 run over the next four minutes to take a commanding 25-12 lead.

Hodge started the run with a jumper at the 14:56 mark in the first half to make the score 10-8 that would give Gettysburg the lead for good. Hodge then sank two free throws and Bear hit a jumper.

Bear gave the Bullets a double-digit lead with a 3-pointer to make the score 19-8 with 12:59 left in the half and force a Red Devil timeout.

After the time out, Dickinson stopped the 11-0 run when Nicole Sclafani scored two of her nine points in the game to cut the deficit to 19-10.

Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) answered right back for Gettysburg with a trey off a Bear assist with 12:03 remaining before the intermission.

Falvello hit a jumper before Falk capped the Bullet run with a 3-pointer with 11:49 remaining in the first half.

Gettysburg went into the locker room with a 43-25 lead and despite a Dickinson run that cut the lead to nine points at 57-48 with 5:15 left in the game cruised to a 72-57 victory.

Drevna, who scored seven points in the game, needs 25 points to surpass Jen Dravis (1,048, 1994-98) to move into fifth place on the program's all-time scoring list.

The Bullets return to action when they travel to Swarthmore, the CC East division leader, on Saturday. Tip-off is 4 p.m.
