GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Katie Macomber
and Dawn Iberer each tallied goals to help Muhlenberg
defeat Gettysburg 2-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's
soccer action on Saturday.
Macomber scored the game-winner and her first
goal of the season in the 13th minute. Iberer, who ranks second
in the conference in goals, scored her 13th goal of the year.
With the goal, Iberer tied Franklin & Marshall's Sarah Preiss
(1996-99) for fifth place with 43 goals on the CC's all-time
goal scoring list.
Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland)
made two saves for the Bullets (8-4-2, 4-2 CC).
The Mules (8-6, 5-1 CC) took an early lead
and never looked back for their second-straight victory over
Gettysburg. With the victory, Muhlenberg takes over sole possession
of second place in the conference.
Macomber took a serve from the left and knocked
scored off a Maureen McLaughlin assist in the
13th minute.
The Mules held the 1-0 advantage until Iberer
made a pass to herself on the left side and scored into the
left netting with 12 minutes, 10 seconds remaining.
Each team had six shots apiece, but Gettysburg
missed several scoring opportunities in the contest.
Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle)
gave the Bullets their only scoring threat in the first half,
but Kim Laurino, who had two saves in the game,
made the save to her left in the 13th minute.
Gettysburg's best scoring opportunity came
when Christina DiTucci (East Rochester, NY/Our Lady
of Mercy) had Laurino one-on-one, but missed high
in the 58th minute.
One minute later, Laurino punched DiTucci's
shot out of the goal and Maggie Cirrito (Garden City,
NJ/Garden City) missed the rebound wide left.
Cirrito gave the Bullets their final chance
to get on the scoreboard, but missed wide in the 69th minute.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday
at Franklin & Marshall in CC play. Game time is 4 p.m.
