COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - David Pone (Bordentown,
NJ/Bordentown) scored the game-winning goal to lead
third-ranked Gettysburg past Ursinus 4-0 in Centennial Conference
(CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.
Pone recorded his fifth goal of the year
20 minutes into the game. Malcolm Thomas (Albany, NH/North
Yarmouth Acad.) scored his second goal and third assist
of the season and has recorded all seven of his points in
the last three games. Will Hohman (Landenberg, PA/St.
Marks) netted his first goal and second assist of
the season after posting five goals and three assists in 2001.
Mike Bevilacqua (Marshfield, MA/Thayer
Acad.) scored his 11th goal of the season. The goal
tied Bevilacqua for eighth place on the program's all-time
goal-scoring list with Sam Arsht (1974-77) and Bob McKee (1968-70)
with 22 goals. The senior also tied Arsht for 13th place on
the all-time points list with 47 points.
BJ Callahan made a game-high
five saves for the Bears (6-7-1, 1-4 CC).
The Bullets (11-0-1, 5-0 CC) took a 1-0 lead
into halftime and cruised to their 11th victory of the year.
Pone gave Gettysburg a 1-0 lead with a goal
off a Thomas assist in the 20th minute.
After the intermission, Bevilacqua scored
off a Hohman assist in the 55th minute and then Hohman found
the twine off an Andrew Maynard (Reading, PA/Exeter)
assist ten minutes later.
Thomas sealed the victory with a goal off
Michael Sarbaugh's (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown)
team-leading fifth assist in the 70th minute.
Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair)
and David Love (Highland Falls, NY/James I O'Neil)
combined for the shutout. Kopp played 72 minutes with
one save to extend his consecutive scoreless streak to 721
minutes while Love made one stop.
The Bullets return to action on Tuesday when
they travel to St. Mary's (Md.). Game time is 3:30 p.m.
