Three unanswered goals leads Franklin & Marshall past Gettysburg, 3-1

LANCASTER, Pa. - Jeanette Finster scored the game-winner and added an assist to lead Franklin & Marshall past Gettysburg 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.

Finster scored the game-winner 10 minutes, 34 seconds into the second half and assisted on the Diplomats (12-1-1, 6-0-1) first goal. Kate Daly and Emily Knapp also scored in the winning effort.

Christina DiTucci (East Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) tallied her fifth goal of the season and Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) recorded her fifth assist of the year for the Bullets (8-5-2, 4-3 CC).

Gettysburg took a 1-0 lead early in the contest, but Franklin & Marshall scored three unanswered goals for its 12th victory of the season. With the victory, the Diplomats are off to their best start since going 12-1 in 1986.

Finster found the twine from the left post in the 56th minute to give Franklin & Marshall a 2-1 advantage. Knapp netted a goal off a Kelly Kennedy in the 67th minute to seal the victory.

Four minutes, 51 seconds into the game, Line found DiTucci to give the Bullets an early 1-0 lead.

Daly scored off a Finster assist with 54 seconds remaining in the first half to knot the game at 1.

Gettysburg outshot the Diplomats 10-8, but missed several scoring opportunities in the game.

Andrea Lipkin (Easton, PA/Easton) gave the Bullets their first scoring threat in the game, but Melissa Ruff made the stop in the third minute.

Ruff, who made five saves in the contest, came away with a Lauren Melillo (Boalsburg, PA/Lewisburg) shot in the 13th minute.

In the second half, Megan Murphy's (Stony Brook, NY/Penn Manor) shot was saved in the 53rd minute and then Kristin Igusky (Sinking Springs, PA/Holy Name) missed a one-on-one opportunity with Ruff high two minutes later.

DiTucci gave Gettysburg its final scoring opportunity, but Ruff made the stop in the 96th minute.

The Bullets return to action on Saturday at Haverford. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
