GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Jenny Line (Carlisle,
PA/Carlisle) scored two goals to lead Gettysburg past
Dickinson 2-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer
action on Tuesday.
Line recorded her fourth two-goal performance
and first since scoring twice against Dickinson on Oct. 23,
2001. The sophomore leads the squad with five goals and five
assists for 15 points and moves into 10th place on the program's
all-time points list with 41.
Leah Hyde (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury)
notched her first collegiate assist on the game-winning goal.
Alyssa Carlow netted her conference-leading
15th goal of the season to tie Franklin & Marshall's Missy
Coroso for first place on the CC's all-time points list with
129.
The two teams battled driving rain throughout
the contest, but the Bullets (10-5-2, 6-3 CC) scored two first
half goals to come away with the victory and remain alive
for one of the remaining conference playoff spots. With the
loss, the Red Devils (9-9, 4-5 CC) were eliminated from CC
playoff contention.
Line scored into the right netting off a
Hyde serve from the left in the 21st minute. Three minutes,
37 seconds later, Line found the twine for the second time
in the game on a two-on-one break to give Gettysburg a 2-0
advantage.
Carlow broke up the shutout when she knocked
in a goal off the left post in the 87th minute.
With nine minutes remaining in the game,
Carlow missed a scoring chance when Gettysburg goalkeeper
Katie Simmons (Altamont, NJ/Guilderland) came
up with the stop in front of the net.
Simmons made three stops in the contest,
while freshman Alanna Schectman made 12 saves
for Dickinson.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday
when they host No. 5 College of New Jersey. Game time is 1:30
p.m.
