ELIZABTHTOWN, Pa. - Kristin Igusky
(Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) netted the game-winner
to lead Gettysburg past Elizabethtown 1-0 in non-conference
women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Igusky scored her second of the season and
Liz Wesolowski (White Plains, NY/Ursiline)
assisted on the winning goal in the 50th minute to help the
Bullets (5-3-2) end a two-game losing skid.
Amy Weid made three saves for
the Blue Jays (6-6).
The two squads battled for 45 minutes before
Gettysburg scored five minutes into the second half and held
on for the victory.
Igusky knocked a shot over Weid's head into
the top right-hand corner from 20 yards out off a Wesolowski
drop pass in the 50th minute.
Elizabethtown outshot the Bullets 12-9, but
did not manage a shot on goal in the game.
Heather Newswanger gave the
Blue Jays their best scoring opportunity when she went one-on-one
with goalie Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland),
but fired a shot wide right in the 41st minute.
Jessica Cromley had two shots
in the 65th and 78th minute, respectively, but both missed
wide.
Danielle Grubb represented
Elizabethtown's final scoring opportunity when she went one-on-one
with Simmons in the 88th minute, but could not find the netting.
Despite not recording a save in the game,
Simmons recorded her third shutout on the year.
With Gettysburg's victory, the visiting team
has won the last five regular season contests in the series.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday
at Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference action. Game time is
1 p.m.
