CARLISLE, Pa. - Sophomore Nicole Barr (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) tallied a team-high 15 kills, six digs and five blocks to lead Gettysburg past Dickinson 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
The Bullets (11-11, 2-1 CC) defeated the Red Devils 30-20, 30-22, 32-34 and 30-15 to win their second consecutive conference match.
Senior Lauren Boyd (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) dished out 31 assists, six digs and six aces while Jessica Cortese (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) posted nine kills and 10 digs for Gettysburg.
The Red Devils (5-18, 0-3 CC) fought back from a 0-2 deficit to never trail in game three. Dickinson took a 28-22 lead off a Bullet attack error, before six kills by Michelle Dorsch (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) saw Gettysburg to their first lead of the game at 31-30. The Red Devils won the next two points on kills by Annelies Rhodes and Kellyn Ritter.
The Bullets continued to battle back and a Joan Nagel (North Wales, PA/North Penn) kill tied the game at 32, but Dickinson held on to win the final two points to cut the lead to 2-1.
Gettysburg dominated the final set, using an early 8-1 run to give the Bullets the lead for good. Boyd rolled off six-straight service points, including two aces to take a 21-11 advantage. Cortese knocked down two kills to help Gettysburg capture seven of the last eight points while an ace by Erica Rau (Oakland Park, FL/Pinecrest) sealed the victory.
In the first game, the Bullets darted out to a 23-8 lead to force the Red Devils second timeout. Cortese rattled off three kills before an ace from Barr closed the game.
After the teams battled back and forth in game two, Gettysburg took 28-20 lead on a Rau block followed by a kill. Dorsch wrapped up the second game with her only kill of the set, 30-22.
Freshman Jayme Massey (Springfield, PA/Merion Mercy Acad.) knocked down a career-high seven blocks and eight kills on the night while Dorsch and Erin Barkdoll (Dover, PA/Dover) tallied eight kills apiece.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at McDaniel. Match time is 7 p.m.
