Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – So far, the few returning players who stayed in the background during Gettysburg’s back-to-back championship runs look quite comfortable in their brand-new leading roles.

David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) scored a career-high 29 points and Dami Oloruntoba (Glenn Dale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) posted his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bullets past Arcadia 70-52 in the first round of the Gettysburg Tip-Off Tournament on Friday.

Glaser shot 9-for-12 from the field, converted all 10 of his free throws, and threw in four assists and three steals for good measure to insure the Bullets (1-0) a date in the tournament championship game against Lynchburg on Saturday. The Hornets downed Villa Julie 73-63 in the night’s first semifinal.

John Schnebly (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) also enjoyed a big night against the Knights (0-1), scoring seven points and hauling in a career-high 13 rebounds, all on the defensive side of the floor.

Jeff Siti led Arcadia with 16 points and six steals while Magen McNeil also reached double digits with 11 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds in his collegiate debut.

The starting trio of Glaser, Schnebly and Oloruntoba represented three of only four returning letterwinners from last season’s squad that won a program-record 20 games and became the first Centennial Conference team to win consecutive titles. They were more than enough on Friday.

Behind 60-percent shooting and a stifling defensive effort, Gettysburg jumped out to a 16-point halftime lead and never looked back.

With the score tied at 10 in the opening minutes, Glaser scored eight of 12 straight Bullet points to put the home team ahead to stay.

Oloruntoba, who scored all 14 of his points in the decisive first half, converted a layup for the lead before Glaser knocked down a 3-pointer and converted a 3-point play on consecutive trips to make it 18-10. Oloruntoba and Glaser followed with back-to-back layups before Jeff Lippencott scored to stop the run and keep the Knights within 10.

Arcadia pulled within seven on a 3-pointer from Vince Clark, but a 3-point play by Oloruntoba pushed the Gettysburg advantage to 33-17 late in the half. Glaser closed the half with a backdoor assist to Chris Grandieri (Media, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) for a 35-19 halftime lead. The Bullets hit 15 of 25 shots in the opening half while holding their guests to a 7-for-22 (32 percent) showing from the floor.

Despite trailing by as many as 19 points in the opening minutes of the second half, the Knights sneaked to within nine thanks to another trey from Clark that cut the lead to 46-37 with 13:53 remaining.

Schnebly knocked down a pull-up jumper and Glaser followed with a put-back bucket to halt the rally and make sure the Knights would get no closer the rest of the way. In the game’s final five minutes, Glaser capped his monster night by assisting on a Doug Loveland (Oceanport, NJ/Christian Brothers Acad.) basket, then scoring nine consecutive points down the stretch.

Glaser’s previous scoring high was a 22-point outing against Alvernia last season.

Friday’s game also marked the first collegiate start for Bullet freshman Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal), who contributed seven points, four rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes.

Gettysburg is seeking its sixth Tip-Off Tournament championship in the 12-year history of the event, and its third title in the last four seasons. The Bullets face Lynchburg for the championship on Saturday at 4 p.m.
