Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) posted his first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds as Gettysburg built a 28-point second-half lead, then withstood a furious Washington rally to defeat the Shoremen 76-69 in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Saturday.

Glaser, held to no points and no rebounds after committing two fouls in four first-half minutes, did all his damage in the midst of Washington’s spirited comeback bid. Trailing 60-32 with 12:40 remaining, the Shoremen (1-4, 0-1 CC) ran off an 18-0 run and eventually pulled within four before the Bullets (4-3, 1-0 CC) converted 8 of 10 free throws in the final 43 seconds to seal the win.

Dami Oloruntoba (Glenn Dale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) added 11 points and eight rebounds in the win, one of four other Bullets to reach double-digit scoring. Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal) chipped in with 12 while Kyle McGlensey (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) scored a career-high 11 and Brad Billmeier (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) had 10.

David Horvath poured in a game-high 25 points for Washington, including 19 after the break to key the rally. Horvath went 7-for-11 from the floor with 3-pointers in the second half, finishing 9-for-16 for the game.

John Alexander added 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds while Colin Camacho also hit double figures with 14.

With their leading scorer confined to the bench through most of the first half, Gettysburg responded by drawing 17 fouls and converting 19 of 23 free throws to build a 26-point lead at the break.

The Shoremen took their one and only lead of the day moments after Glaser’s second foul, going up 4-3 on an Alexander layup at the 15:45 mark.

Following a Bullet timeout, Ryan Page (Silver Spring, MD/St. John’s College) finished a driving layup to touch off a 13-0 run that gave Gettysburg a 16-4 lead. Oloruntoba keyed the burst with six points.

Billmeier provided four points, two rebounds and one assist in a 10-0 run that made it 28-8, then capped an 11-0 stretch with a layup for a 43-17 lead. Oloruntoba’s breakaway dunk in the last minute gave the Bullets a seemingly comfortable 45-19 edge at the half.

Gettysburg’s lead ballooned to 60-32 on a pair of Glaser free throws with 12:40 left before Washington made its move.

Following a Doug Loveland (Oceanport, NJ/Christian Brothers Acad.) layup, Horvath scored seven points, Camacho knocked down a pair of threes and Alexander hit two buckets and a free throw to key an 18-0 run that pulled the Shoremen within 63-54 with 3:38 remaining.

Over that same stretch, the Bullets committed six turnovers, missed all four of their field goal attempts and two free throws in 11 straight empty possessions.

Page temporarily halted the run with a pair of free throws, but Horvath’s fourth and final 3-pointer of the game made it 68-64 with 75 seconds to play.

Oloruntoba converted the first of two free throws on Gettysburg’s next trip and Glaser maintained possession by rebounding the second free throw with 43 ticks left. Brady then hit 5 of 6 free charity tosses in the final 30 seconds to lock up the win.

Washington finished with one more field goal attempt in the second half (38) than Gettysburg had for the entire game (37). The Bullets, however, enjoyed a 48-17 advantage in free throw attempts.

The Bullets, who posted their sixth straight win against the Shoremen, return to action on Wednesday at home against Johns Hopkins. Game time is 8 p.m.
